Islam persecutes, harasses and murders non-Muslims it is a fundamental part of Islam.  Muslims are "friendly" when they are in the minority this is a deception that they are taught to use until they are in a majority, then they become real Muslims which are commanded to persecute non-Muslims.

The Quran:
Quran (2:191-193) - "And kill them wherever you find them, and turn them out from where they have turned you out. And Al-Fitnah [disbelief] is worse than killing...
but if they desist, then lo! Allah is forgiving and merciful.   And fight them until there is no more Fitnah [disbelief and worshipping of others along with Allah] and worship is for Allah alone.  But if they cease, let there be no transgression except against Az-Zalimun (the polytheists, and wrong-doers, etc.)"  (Translation is from the Noble Quran)  The historical context of this passage is not defensive warfare, since Muhammad and his Muslims had just relocated to Medina and were not under attack by their Meccan adversaries.  In fact, the verses urge offensive warfare, in that Muslims are to drive Meccans out of their own city (which they later did).  The use of the word "persecution" by some Muslim translators is thus disingenuous (the actual Muslim words for persecution - "idtihad" - and oppression - a variation of "z-l-m" - do not appear in the verse).  The actual Arabic comes from "fitna" which can mean disbelief, or the disorder that results from unbelief or temptation.  Taken as a whole, the context makes clear that violence is being authorized until "religion is for Allah" - ie. unbelievers desist in their unbelief. Can you explain to a blind person from birth what a color is? It can be only described in ways that fail because there is no point of reference. Explaining a life with God is very similar in my opinion, as an atheist before being born again I assumed many things about God.(Jesus is God, I know because He revealed Himself to me one morning Nov. 2012)

I had no point of reference.

 Atheists make this mistake to postulate without any experience of God and taking a position that guarantees that God will not reveal Himself to them.

The deeper issue is that, and I know this from personal experience, is that I did not want to be told what to do and when to do it, I wasn't going to let God put a cramp in my style, I really enjoyed sin, which is fun for a little while and then the consequences come and it gets ugly then death is not too far behind, spiritual and then physical.

As I grew in Christ I learned that His commandments weren't there to take away from my life but to protect me from the death in sin and to have a joy and peace beyond what sin can offer. Repent (turn from sin) and believe that Jesus died for sinners (you and me) that He was buried and rose from the grave. Pray and ask God to reveal Himself to you, be persistant and He will. Seek and you shall find. Luke 11:9 And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.

It is a remarkable journey when God reaches down to us mercifully and gives us a new life from above (born again).  I was an atheist slash buddist when Jesus broke through the fabric of this reality to open my understanding of the truth of the bible and His deity.  In an instant I was radically changed inside and out, in so many ways, bad habbits I have had for decades disappeared, my soul ached for God, His will for my life, and my heart was completely changed.  I hurt over my sins and how I was an enemy of God who gave me everything including the breath in my lungs.  Hope appeared for the first time, my life had a purpose, before then I knew something was horrible wrong but was lost on what exactly that was. I used to practice daily yoga and meditation before I was saved and born again.  I had instances of violent attack by spirits (demons) and I convulsed and was filled with confusion and terror. I would scream uncontrollably as waves of searing pain raced through my entire body.
